Five Nuclear Education Trends in 2022

It is interesting to reflect on how far education and training have come in the last two years. The pandemic threw face-to-face classroom instruction into a realm of impossibility, and a terrifying realization presented itself to instructors. We were not prepared. The pandemic forced educational technology (EdTech) to center stage in Nuclear Education as well as in every other learning environment. K-12, Higher Education, Workplace Training, and even Professional Development have seen dramatic shifts in instructional strategy, with even more innovation around the bend, and we will continue to do so.

Here are five EdTech trends to watch for in the Nuclear Industry in 2022:

1. Distance Learning

Blended and distance instruction is not going anywhere. In fact, corporate eLearning is predicted to grow by $38 Billion by 2024 (Tamm, 2022). Accelerant Solutions is highly experienced with designing and developing eLearning and innovative instructional strategies for nuclear power and beyond.

 2. Immersive Learning Technology

These are Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), and Mixed Reality (MR). Using any of these strategies creates an immersive experience where students and trainees not only learn but also apply knowledge obtained in guided practice activities. The speed at which we are accustomed to retrieving information is supplemented by AR, VR, and MR activities where training in a simulated environment is used to safely practice skillsets. Valuable time and money are saved when full-scale mockups and labs are replaced, and let’s not forget radiation dose reduction.

3. Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Artificial Intelligence is an EdTech trend that has existed prior to 2022 but is becoming more prominent this year.  AI creates a unique opportunity for trainers to customize learning based on their trainees’ strengths and areas of need.

 4. Game-Based Learning

Blended or virtual learning is amplified by game-based learning, which is the opportunity for students to apply content knowledge to problem-solve, think critically, and accomplish tasks.

 5. Customized Training Material

Oddly enough, decades of education have existed without an understanding of how we learn.  The science behind how the brain acquires and processes information for potential storage in short or long-term memory has established a more significant role in educational training. Learning cannot be prescribed, but rather must be an experience for long-term retention to occur. Opportunities to practice skills and apply knowledge to accomplish tasks and solve problems optimize cognition. Accelerant Solutions uses research in cognitive psychology and neuroscience to design and develop customized training material to enhance the learner experience and produce exceptional student outcomes.

The EdTech outlook for 2022 is exciting and is prompting many companies to review where their current training programs or material stands. Accelerant Solutions continues to examine trends and blaze trails to produce cutting-edge, innovative products and services in the nuclear industry for our customers.   So don’t be left behind; be a part of the innovation in nuclear education.
